For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (Relating to physical, sensual), but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds
2 Cor. 10:14 Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Eph. 6:11, 13)
Acts 4:2 – Being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead” (Acts 4:2)
Here in Acts 4:2 the gospel was being preached by the apostles; souls were drawing near to listen. At the very same time the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees also drew near to hear the gospel, but for completely different reasons. They were concerned about what the apostles were teaching the crowd about Jesus and the resurrection of whom they vehemently hated. Therefore when they heard the message, they would not accept it, on the contrary they were “greatly disturbed.”
On some level, I believe that spiritual warfare is waged whenever the good news of Jesus Christ is preached. It must revile the devil and his hordes. That is why prayer must be especially engaged in before any public pronouncement of the gospel is made. The world is full of evil spirits or demons that do everything they can to hinder God’s word of reconciliation from being received by the lost. Spiritual warfare is always waged as the kingdom of heaven infiltrates Satan’s territories, thus it of itself is a “spiritual weapon.” Believers should always be aware and prepared for spiritual battle when preaching or teaching the good news of Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:24 – “So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said, “Lord, thou art God, which made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that in them is:”
Peter and John had made their stand. Peter had stood before the rulers of the people and elders of Israel declaring the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth (whom they had crucified), but God had raised Him from the dead (Vs. 8-10). The apostle’s had made a public stand for God over man and because of the boldness they had exemplified in the Holy Ghost their accusers found “no way of punishing them” (Vs. 21). Boldness in the Holy Ghost is a weapon of spiritual warfare. Boldness in the Holy Ghost is the power which comes from the authority given through the name of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) that backs-up our claims. The authority over Satan is the name of Jesus who often exposed the weaknesses of evil spirits and their demonic oppression and possession of human hosts by His bold command to them to “come out!” (Mark 1:25, 26). Jesus promised the Holy Ghost was coming upon the disciples to give them “power to become witnesses of Him” (Acts 1:8). Again we see that bold witnessing is the power of the Holy Ghost is a form spiritual warfare.
Acts 6:10 – “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake”
The only real weapon Satan has, and has shown repeatedly over the millennia is the weapons of “murder, lying and deception.” (Jn. 8:44; Rev. 19:20, 20:10) Satan a murderer from the beginning abodes not in the truth became a LIAR! He is called the father of lies, because he cannot tell the truth! He even lied to himself when he began to think that he could ascend his throne above the stars of God and sit on the mount of the congregation (Isaiah 14:13). Those under demonic influence of Satan will constantly resist GOD and try to assume superiority over every command of GOD that should be obeyed.
The Apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2: 10-11 says that these unrighteous people will perish under deception and will not receive the love of the truth and be saved. Lies are in direct contrast to the truth of GOD. Therefore spiritual warfare has to be armed with the truth, which is the Word of GOD. The word of GOD is the believer’s offensive weapon in spiritual warfare which Paul calls the “sword of the spirit” (Eph. 6:17). Jesus used the word of GOD to defeat Satan’s temptations in the wilderness (Matt. 4:3; Luke 4:3). God’s word is to be used against the “lies” of Satan for he “cannot resist its wisdom.”
Acts 8:20 – “But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Simon thought as was the custom then that power could be “purchased for the right price.” Unbeknown to him was the fact that Jesus Christ had paid the price with His precious blood for what he was trying to buy. Little did Simon know the commandment of Jesus when He said to his disciples, “freely you have received, freely give” (Matt. 10:8). He was power struck as he observed the apostles’ spiritual abilities. There will be people who want the glory of the gift without the commitment to the “gift giver.” When believer’s minister, they must bear in mind that Satan will not only try (test) their faith and gifting, he will try to mark or mock the gifting of the Holy Spirit. Spiritual warfare is exacted in this situation as the apostle not only rejects Simons offer, but rebukes him. An important key in spiritual warfare is to be able to resist the devil that he would flee (James 4:7).
Acts 12:5 – “Peter was therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”
“And when Herod was about to bring…” I like this idea that while Peter was kept in prison the saints were in steadfast prayer and supplication. Notice while Herod was planning to bring Peter out of prison to kill him; the saints were counter praying for their life and release. In other words, there are two forces at work here: The first was to bring about the devil’s plot of death; the second was to resist the devil’s plot through prayer. (James 4:7) From the time of the fall of Adam has been declared between two forces; the forces of good and evil (Gen. 3). Jesus declared that the keys of the kingdom were to be used to bind and loose: And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom thou shalt bind on earth shall be found in heaven: Matt. 16:19, 18:18 says, “And whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
What was one key point in the battle of Spiritual warfare? To be continued…
