When God Gives True Peace
When do you brag on God? Do you brag about His peace?
In a women’s book study a few years ago, the leader asked us to randomly share stories of God’s faithfulness in our lives. About seven women went up front to share. All were stories about material provisions. While it is good to hear stories of how God provides for our needs, it can make God look like a genie. It can make us forget how often God is faithful in other areas of our lives.
One day I was very agitated. Not by anything in particular. It just happened to be one of those days where everything bothered me. I was finally tired of feeling uptight. I was tired of being snappy at everyone.
I went into my room, closed the door, got on my knees – and began to praise God. I said, “Lord I exalt you. I praise you. I honor you. I glorify your name. I thank-you for all that you’ve done. I thank-you for your love and mercy. I thank-you for forgiving me – for saving me.” Slowly but surely, the feeling I had went away.
How often do you praise God when things aren’t going your way?
When David was under duress, he praised God. Psalm 28 is a good example. It starts with David’s plea to God to save him from trouble. David felt betrayed. He was angry and asked God to vindicate him. At the end of this Psalm, David is praising God. It does not mean at that moment all of David’s troubles went away – but He still praised God no less.
Can you get on your knees today and praise God for your trouble? Can you praise God in your sadness? Can you praise God when you’re scared or mistreated? Can you praise God – share His goodness with others – and glorify His name?
Oh praise His Holy name! And experience true peace.
Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”
